Handcrafted using age-old techniques, the 100% cotton yarns are resist-dyed, twirled, and skillfully hand-loomed to create a shaded-pattern effect. Nyali’s bright turquoise, navy blue, and light grey pattern are as timeless as the Kenyan sea and sky that it celebrates.
The stunning contrasting embroidery on the back – a white, spreadeagled crane - adds a touch of glamour and reminds us all of the need for wildlife conservation.
Handwoven by our community of artisans this ikat kimono is a slow fashion piece, supporting ancient weaving techniques, and small communities of artists, who inherited their looms from their ancestors and practise their expertise passed through generations. This, makes this piece so unique.
