OUR PRODUCTION
At KLEED we are passionate about fashion – with a conscience. We truly believe that any sophisticated fashion brand has to be mindful of its impact on our Planet. Our carefully designed, elegant pieces enrich our daily lives because they are beautiful. They also bring peace of mind, by being consciously produced. Be it sourcing, weaving or dying, we work with traditional, sustainable techniques and organic fabrics as much as possible. And our unique, handmade KLEED articles can be loved and treasured for a lifetime.
OUR THREADS
We aim to only use natural and organic products and fibres in our production: silk, cotton, linen and viscose. Viscose is a natural material made from wood pulp, and we only work with FSC certified viscose. We’re increasing our use of organic cotton in each collection. By working with organic and biodegradable products and materials, we reduce our carbon footprint and leave less pollution in our wake.
Ancient techniques such as IKAT weaving and hand block printing have been practised for many centuries by highly talented artisans. From carving blocks, preparing fabrics, mixing the dyes, printing, dyeing and washing – these craftsmen skilfully create unique items of the highest quality that last a lifetime. They are the epitome of Slow Fashion. Each KLEED garment is unique and handmade. When you purchase and wear KLEED, you are making a conscious choice to keep this cultural heritage alive.
OUR DYES
We are working towards using non-chemical dyes – like natural indigo from indigo-bearing plants for our blue tones - to produce our exclusive prints.
Natural, plant-based dyes are plentiful, can be replanted and are produced sustainably. Unlike toxic synthetic dyes, extracted plant residues can be composted, and the water generated during the process can be used as irrigation for recycling.
The city of Bagru, India, is known around the world for natural coloured hand block printing, natural dyeing, indigo dyeing, mud block print, and mud tie dye. These sustainable printing and dyeing methods have been used for thousands of years. The source materials for natural dyes are not only plentiful but also harmless and non-pollutant. The extracted plant residue can be composted, and the wastewater generated during the indigo dye collection process can also be used as irrigation for recycling.
As a result, it is a truly sustainable dyeing method. For our future collections, we will implement more natural dyeing processes in the manufacturing of our garments as much as possible.
OUR WASTE
As part of its sustainability strategy, KLEED is committed to achieving zero waste - no mean feat for a luxury fashion brand, considering the complex sourcing, dyeing and production processes involved. Our latest initiative: The Green Label Collection. Using excess fabrics from each collection, our talented designers have come up with stunning, unique designs. Best of all, from our discerning customers’ point of view, The Green Label articles are, by their very definition, limited editions. As well as being zero waste, each The Green Label collection is unique, simply because each article is designed and produced from existing stock – which our socially conscious KLEED clients deeply appreciate. More than zero waste, we are creating our own circular economy”.
